Playstation 4 Review

After much debating, I finally decided to go ahead and purchase the Playstation 4(PS4). Traditionally, I'm not an early adopter due to many new technology products experiencing issues. A great deal of the new technology products introduced to the consumer market have issues with bugs, software issues and a host of other problems. There were a number of things influencing my decision on purchasing the PS4 and ultimately I decided to take the plunge, trade in my old PS3 (Gamestop was offering $100), and purchase the new PS4. Consequently, here is my take on the Playstation 4. (Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this blog are based solely on my experience with it to date and not based on anything other than that. )

The Playstation 4  has a lot of good qualities and has been billed as a "purely gaming machine", which means it has been stripped of a lot of the functionality available on the PS3 model but I'll get into that a little later. First, the graphics on the PS4 are excellent. If I had to compare, I would say the difference resembles the difference between watching a standard definition television and then going to watch a high-definition television (HDTV). Maybe that is a bit of a hyperbole but you get the idea. The graphics on the PS4 are much more advanced than it's predecessor. Next, the controller is much better and adds more to the gaming experience. A feature that I found to be very cool with the controller is that it has it's own speaker. By having a speaker on the controller it adds to the experience much like adding surround sound to your own home theater. Third, the price is a little steep for the casual gamer. The price is currently around $500.00 for the base model and if you're on a budget this can put a major strain on your wallet.

Although there are some good reasons to purchase the PS4, in my experience the unit still leaves much to be desired. One thing I don't like about the current version is the lack of flexibility when it comes to music options. My PS4 is currently hooked up to my home theater system which I use to play music on occasion. However, with the current setup I'm unable to play CDs, use a flash drive to play music on the PS4, or stream music from my music server set up on my PC. The one option I have to play music on the PS4 is to stream through online music services which kind of takes away from the music experience since I have playlists that are already setup with all of the songs I want to hear. Next, this really grinds my gears but the PS4 is not backwards compatible when it comes to games. This means you have to purchase all new games to play on the PS4 as it will not play your previously used PS3 games. Lastly, there's a limited library of games available currently for the PS4. This begs the question at least from my point of view: Why produce a purely gaming machine and have a limited number of games available to play? To their credit, there should be more games available soon but I think they could have coordinated the launch a little better with game manufacturers.

In conclusion, the PS4 overall is a great machine with some limitations. The good thing is that many of the limitation can be addressed with a software update. The main question is: Are the powers that be willing to add that functionality back to the PS4 version or do they stick with making this a purely gamin machine. Well, there you have it folks just my 2 cents for what it's worth until next time.

Intentional Antagonizations

Why do people purposely antagonize others?

At some point I had a conversation with someone about not posting pictures of me on facebook. I made it perfectly clear that I do not appreciate being posted in pictures on their facebook; however, for some reason they continue to do it. And it's not even the fact they posted the picture, but to intentionally do it takes the situation to another level in my opinion. It's like you really want to ask the person, what are you thinking? If you asked me not to do something then I would respect you as a person and not continue to do so, or at the very least I would ask for your permission prior to doing so. But, the fact they put a disclaimer out before posting the picture further illustrates the act was intentional and further acerbates me to the point where I was contemplating retaliation. However, after calming down some I chose to just ignore the person and leave them to exist in their own sad little world.

When it rains it pours, or does it?

Sometimes we as humans tend to notice things more when they happen in succession; however, things happen the same way pretty much all the time. Case in point, using a sports analogy, when a team gets on a winning streak the public tends to take note and pay more attention. The same also happens in reverse, for example when a team goes on a losing streak. Consequently, the same happens when things tend to go wrong in life and it seems that everything keeps going wrong and we tend to overlook the one positive and dwell on the negative. So, in life we must look for the small victories and not look for streaks because they are an anomaly more than anything else. Keep pushing, keep striving and when we look at the overall picture we can truly savor the positives that life has to offer.

TV Shows - Beyond Scared Straight

So, I had the chance to watch 3 tv shows this week and they were very intriguing.

First up, was Beyond Scared Straight. This show was about troubled teens that get into trouble and they're taking them to a real prison to get a feel of what it's like to live behind prison walls. The girls episode was pretty interesting. Aside from the fact that most of the women there look like men, the show captured my attention and kept it throughout. One of the highlights was that one of the girls ran into her mother at the prison and her mother was pleading with her to get her life straight. However, the girl looked very disinterested in what her mother had to say. Hopefully, she can break the cycle and become a productive member of society but she is fighting an uphill battle given her upbringing. The men's version was pretty much more of the same and the highlight of that show for me was a scrawny little 13 year old boy that's in the foster care system. This kid is maybe 70 pounds soaking wet and he gets himself into all kinds of trouble, hopefully he can maybe turn himself around and become a productive member of society. Final Word: The show was good, but what about the millions of other teens that need help but there's no one reaching out to them. I guess this is why local organizations are so important. So, I haven't made a New Year's resolution yet but I'm going to volunteer at a youth organization in some capacity because it's time to ask not what my country could do for me but what I could do for it.

Random Acts of Violence

So, I just found out one of my classmates fell victim to a random act of violence. Story has it, he was just playing a round of golf when two guys jumped out of a bush and tried to rob him. During the altercation, my classmate was shot in the back and died susbsequently thereafter. It's crazy because this classmate was one of my best friends growing up and as the years passed I lost touch with him. It's kind of eery to think something so random as going to play golf can end up costing your life. I guess we just have to pray and ask God to watch over us and keep us because you never know when your time is coming. Until next time stay safe everybody.

And that's just the way I see it.

"The Game" Premier

"The Game" got real Hollywood. While I don't think it was right for Melanie to go behind Derwin's back and get a DNA test performed on the little boy, I think it was necessary. Since Melanie is a stakeholder in this situation, she also has rights. However, as two responsible adults I think they should have been able to sit down and work through this situation. After all, marriage is a partnership and should be always treated as such. Both parties have to be willing and able to give 100%. As the saying goes, they need to be ALL IN!!!
