TV Shows - Beyond Scared Straight

So, I had the chance to watch 3 tv shows this week and they were very intriguing.



First up, was Beyond Scared Straight. This show was about troubled teens that get into trouble and they're taking them to a real prison to get a feel of what it's like to live behind prison walls. The girls episode was pretty interesting. Aside from the fact that most of the women there look like men, the show captured my attention and kept it throughout. One of the highlights was that one of the girls ran into her mother at the prison and her mother was pleading with her to get her life straight. However, the girl looked very disinterested in what her mother had to say. Hopefully, she can break the cycle and become a productive member of society but she is fighting an uphill battle given her upbringing. The men's version was pretty much more of the same and the highlight of that show for me was a scrawny little 13 year old boy that's in the foster care system. This kid is maybe 70 pounds soaking wet and he gets himself into all kinds of trouble, hopefully he can maybe turn himself around and become a productive member of society. Final Word: The show was good, but what about the millions of other teens that need help but there's no one reaching out to them. I guess this is why local organizations are so important. So, I haven't made a New Year's resolution yet but I'm going to volunteer at a youth organization in some capacity because it's time to ask not what my country could do for me but what I could do for it.

Random Acts of Violence

So, I just found out one of my classmates fell victim to a random act of violence. Story has it, he was just playing a round of golf when two guys jumped out of a bush and tried to rob him. During the altercation, my classmate was shot in the back and died susbsequently thereafter. It's crazy because this classmate was one of my best friends growing up and as the years passed I lost touch with him. It's kind of eery to think something so random as going to play golf can end up costing your life. I guess we just have to pray and ask God to watch over us and keep us because you never know when your time is coming. Until next time stay safe everybody.

"The Game" Premier

"The Game" got real Hollywood. While I don't think it was right for Melanie to go behind Derwin's back and get a DNA test performed on the little boy, I think it was necessary. Since Melanie is a stakeholder in this situation, she also has rights. However, as two responsible adults I think they should have been able to sit down and work through this situation. After all, marriage is a partnership and should be always treated as such. Both parties have to be willing and able to give 100%. As the saying goes, they need to be ALL IN!!!
